Teeth Straightening for Adults—without Metal Braces

invisalign-trayTraditional metal braces are not only a nuisance in your social life, they can interfere with your professional career, limit what you can eat and be very uncomfortable. Invisalign treatment uses virtually invisible, clear plastic aligners to gradually straighten your teeth over time. The aligners comfortably fit over your teeth and do away with the need for traditional brackets and wires for most patients.

Dr. Davidson and Dr. Michael Davidson are both certified Invisalign providers and have years of experience helping adult patients achieve beautiful, straight new smiles.

Advantages of Invisalign

  • Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible—Metal braces are awkward-looking and can make you feel self-conscious about smiling. Invisalign aligners are made out of a clear plastic that is nearly invisible in your mouth.
  • Invisalign aligners are easily removable—While it is strongly recommended that you wear your aligners at least 22 hours per day, you can remove Invisalign aligners whenever you want, for eating, cleaning your teeth or to take photos during special occasions. Removable aligners also mean you can eat whatever you want and don’t have to restrict your diet. You will also be able to clean your teeth easily, which can be a problem with traditional metal braces.
  • Invisalign aligners are comfortable to wear – The aligners fit snugly around your teeth and there are no metal brackets or wires to irritate your mouth. Most patients find Invisalign aligners comfortable to wear.
  • Invisalign aligners require fewer dental visits – Dental visits for Invisalign treatment are scheduled every six weeks, as opposed to every two to four weeks for metal braces.

How Invisalign Works

The Invisalign System is an alternative to traditional braces for patients who have all their adult teeth and completely developed jaws. It is an effective method of teeth straightening for a broad range of cases.

Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gently shift your teeth into their correct positions over time.

Planning your treatment

Patient with doctor looking at invisalign

The doctor will show you how your teeth will shift during each stage of your treatment.

The doctor will take a series of digital X-rays, photos and full impressions of your upper and lower teeth. These will all be sent over to technicians at the Invisalign lab, who will work with the doctor to create a precise digital treatment plan.

Dr. Davidson or Dr. Michael Davidson will show you a digital presentation of how your teeth will shift at each stage of the procedure, and can give you an estimate of how long your treatment will take.

Comfortable custom aligners

The Invisalign lab will fabricate a series of custom clear aligners for straightening your teeth. The aligners are made out of a smooth, BPA-free, medical grade plastic and fit closely over your teeth.

Unlike traditional braces with their brackets and wires, Invisalign aligners are comfortable and don’t irritate your gums or the inside of your cheeks.

Gradually straightening your teeth

Each custom aligner is worn for about two weeks before you change it out for the next aligner in the series. You will come back to our office approximately every six weeks for check-up appointments so the doctor can ensure your treatment is progressing as it should be. The average length of time for completing a course of Invisalign is about twelve months, whereas treatment with traditional braces can often take several years.

Invisalign Express

invisalign_clip_image001Invisalign Express is an affordable, fast and convenient way to correct minor flaws in the alignment of your teeth, such as minor crowding or spacing.

Invisalign Express treatment uses ten aligners or less to correct these issues. The entire process takes about three to six months to complete, and is more economical than full Invisalign treatment or teeth straightening with traditional braces. Dr. Davidson or Dr. Michael Davidson can let you know if treatment with Invisalign Express will achieve the results you are looking for.

Conditions Invisalign Can Correct

Invisalign treatment can correct a wide variety of misalignment issues, from mild cases of crooked teeth to more complex situations. Here are some of the conditions Invisalign can correct:

  • Crowded teeth

overly-crowded-teethThis occurs when there is simply a lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can cause dental decay, increase the risk of gum disease, and prevent normal functioning of the teeth.

  • Overbite

overbite-tcAn overbite is a condition where the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. This issue can cause painful jaw joint problems, gum irritation, wear on your lower teeth, and chipped or fractured front teeth. It can also precipitate gum disease.

  • Underbite

underbiteIn the case of an underbite, the lower teeth protrude past the front upper teeth. It’s usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both. It can also be caused by missing upper teeth. This can prevent the normal function of the front teeth or molars, which can lead to tooth wear. It can also cause painful problems with the jaw joints.

  • Gaps between your teeth

widely-spaced-teethThis occurs with abnormal, continued growth of the jaw bone. When teeth are missing, this issue can also be caused by the other teeth shifting due to the extra space available. Spacing issues can contribute to gum disease.

  • Open bite

Open biteWhen there is an open bite, some teeth do not make contact with the opposing teeth, leaving an open space between the upper and lower teeth. An open bite can be the source of poor or painful chewing and can lead to problems with the jaw joint.

  • Crossbite

crossbiteinvisalignA crossbite occurs when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It causes one or more of the upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. This issue can cause wear on the teeth and result in gum disease and bone loss.
